Reflect of reading habits
In the images I see 2 different things, one of them is intention and the other one is obligation. Students didn’t choose what to read, It is imposed so it is not motivating. Otherwise, adults choose what they want to read, therefore, it is enjoyable for them. This means they will keep with their reading habit in the future, however, for students, reading will become something boring and tedious.
Based on my own experience when I was a student I remember that reading wasn’t even at the to-do list of my daily activities. Even though I was born with a natural interest about comics and books, this interest didn’t persist throughout the years. I didn’t like reading because of several reasons, one of them being that films made it so much easier to digest information than training your brain to create stories. The other reason was that normally I couldn’t find any interesting book about what I was interested in at that age. Because all of that I felt bored and even grumpy when I was forced to read a book I certainly didn’t like.
It was not until last year that I found a topic I enjoyed a lot, which was human psychology and social/love interactions between individuals. Definitely that point of interest made me want to explore different books. I didn’t enjoy every single one of them and even the ones that were more exciting for me weren’t like that all the time. That means that even with a clear mindset about what to read, when and where, it is something that requires some level dedication for some people. But as an adult you decide what to do, and freedom is one of the most important things that makes me feel good about what I do. Adults in those pictures are willing to discover new frontiers whether it is information in a newspaper or an interesting book they have just found in the library.
Students in the class remind me of those times when I was forced to read books in school and made me partially hate the act of reading.
Reading in the library reminds me of when I read at my sofa comfortably and at the pace I want, with the freedom to avoid it for several weeks or months and then coming back to engage with it again.
I don’t mind using L1 or L2 for reading, but very rarely do I read something that isn’t related to the field of human dynamics. But definitely I always read on paper.
I read when I feel I want to read, I never force myself. Last book I read was very short and it took me almost 2 months but it was totally worth it because otherwise I would have quit and returned the book to the library.
